Istanbul.

Istanbul is the city at the center of the world. At the center of its history, of two continents, of centuries of tradition, and now the center of a rush of modernity and generational change. This enormous city has been one of humanities' most vital metropolises for thousands of years and your imagination lights up when you hear the name.

The prospect of bringing our cameras to Istanbul has us all awake at night in anticipation, for several reasons. Not only is it the kind of place you dream about photographing: we are going to photograph it in a whole new way. iStockalypse iStanbul is the beginning of Editorial photography at iStock.

overview

iStanbul is a radically different event from any previous iStockalypse. For the first time ever, we are shooting editorial and not stock photography. Our focus is on education, with more time spent on group learning and discussion than ever before.

Each morning starts with a seminar. Then your group will spend the day in the city covering a specific topic. We then reconvene in the evening to examine each other's images in a workshop format.

Our goal is to give all attendees both the chance to shoot as much as possible in Istanbul, free of the constraints that go with a studio and a static set of lights, and also to instill them all with as much education on editorial photography as we can cram into 4 days.

attending

Instead of selling tickets in the conventional way, iStanbul is an invite-only event. We have worked closely with the staff at Getty Images to choose the 30 people for this event, based on the potential we see for quickly taking to the editorial style and practices in their work.

We will be joined by major players in the Editorial industry, including the people behind Getty Images Reportage, and some of the very best photojournalists in the game today, including:

– Aidan Sullivan, VP Assignments, Getty Images

– Andreas Gebhard, Manager, Picture Desk, Americas Getty Images

Tom Stoddart, Photographer

... and more to be announced.
